The Velcrum
The Velcrum corrects. The Velcrum rewards.
In a world governed by an unseen force that responds instantly to intent, suffering is not questioned—it is accepted. What happens is what must happen. To interfere is to risk something worse.
Sorel is a healer's apprentice, trained within the same understanding as everyone else: the Velcrum corrects, and people do not interfere. But when she begins helping those who suffer—regardless of cause—her actions unsettle those around her.
As tension grows, she leaves her village and begins traveling, offering aid where she can. Where she goes, others begin to do the same.
Velinora, her former mentor, begins to notice a pattern forming across the region. Reports spread. Attention follows.
And as more people choose to help the person in front of them, the consequences of those choices begin to ripple outward beyond anything the Velcrum has accounted for.
It's on this page because finishing a novel takes the same discipline as shipping software. You hold a large structure in your head for a year and make a few thousand small decisions that all have to stay consistent with each other. Then you hand it to someone who wasn't there and find out whether any of it works.
